Trains having an average speed of 55 kilometers per hour (34 mph) or more on both up and down journeys (60 kilometers per hour (37 mph) until the early 1990s) come into a superfast train category. Superfast trains are numbered with a prefix of 12 or 22 or 20.
Here are the details of the charges for superfast trains:
- AC Ist = Rs. 75/-
- AC 2 Tier = Rs. 45/-
- First Class (Mail/Express) = Rs. 45/-
- AC 3 Tier = Rs. 45/-
- AC Chair Car = Rs. 45/-
- Sleeper (Mail/Express) = Rs. 30/-
- Second Sitting (Mail/Express) = Rs. 15/-
How can I know that my train is super fast or Express?
You can identify whether your train is super fast or not by noticing the following things:
- If your train is a super fast train then your train number must be starting with 12xxx, 22xxx. For example 12418 Prayag Raj Exp, 12560 Shiv Ganga Exp & 22420 Suhaildev Superfast Express.
- If your train is Express then your train number must be starting with 13xxx, 14xxx, 15xxx, etc. For example 13307 Gangasutlej Exp, 14056 Brahmputra Mail, & 15909 Avadh Assam Express.
Mail Trains
Mail trains are similar to express trains in that they have a lower average speed and more stops. The train number starts with 1xxxx or 2xxxx and the average speed below 50 km/h is mail trains. The Maharashtra Sampark Kranti Express is India’s fastest Mail Express train.
Antyodaya Trains
Antyoodaya trains are generally made for overnight journeys. Indian Railways designed Antyodaya Express coaches that are totally unreserved/general. Antyodaya Express was announced in India’s 2016 Railway Budget, and it will run on high-traffic routes.
- Unreserved/General coaches will be available on these trains.
- These trains will have bio toilet in compartments.
- Passengers will also get charging ports for charging electronic devices such as mobiles, laptops, and other things.
- The exterior look of coaches on these train have futuristic look with the use of Vinyl sheets.
- Water vending machines, coat hangers, and Braille indicators are also available on this train.
- Smoke alarms and CCTV cameras also have been installed in compartments as safety measures.
