To claim IRCTC insurance passengers must fulfill these criteria:
- Only Indian citizens who purchase tickets through the IRCTC website or mobile app would be able to purchase insurance.
- For train travel, IRCTC provides maximum protection of ten lakh rupees.
IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation) provides insurance coverage of up to ten lakh rupees at a low fee of 49 paise. IRCTC provides an option of choosing the travel insurance while booking the ticket via the IRCTC website or app. If you choose this option while booking your train, the travel insurance will cover all passengers booked under the same PNR (Passenger Name Record).
Here is one thing you should remember that you can only avail this benefit while booking your tickets through the IRCTC website or application. According to the IRCTC insurance policy, the coverage only covers death, permanent partial disabilities, permanent full disability, and hospitalization expenditures for injury, as well as transportation of mortal remains following a rail accident or unfortunate incident. The maximum coverage is up to ten lakh, with ten lakh coverage for death or permanent total disability caused by railway accidents or other unforeseen events. For permanent partial disability, there is coverage of 7.5 lakh. The 2 lakh coverage for injury-related hospitalisation expenditures is in addition to the death or disability coverage.
Steps to get travel insurance
When you are booking your ticket via the IRCTC app or website you will have to select travel insurance. Then you will receive a policy information message from the company on your registered email ID. You will get a link to fill in all the details of nominees. After purchasing a ticket, the traveler must complete the nomination form on the website of the appropriate insurance company. Bharti Axa General Insurance, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, and Shriram General Insurance are the three insurance providers that provide train insurance for ticket bookings made through the IRCTC website or app.
You can not cancel once you have paid the premium. In all situations, including wait-listed tickets, there will be no refund of the premium. If passengers don’t fill the nominee then if a claim occurs, the settlement will be made with lawful heirs, according to the IRCTC announcement.
