Have you lost your train ticket and now you are thinking about what should you do now. Well, the Indian railway has always been supportive of its passengers and that’s why it has come up with the solution if you have lost your train ticket.
Indian railway is the most active contributor to the country’s income. Whether it’s taking measures toward digitization, ensuring passenger safety, or resolving journey-related difficulties, Indian Railways is has always been ready to help their passengers. While traveling via train you must have a train ticket and identity proof but what if you lost your train ticket?
You don’t have to worry about it, as we told you earlier Indian railways have always been helpful to their passengers. IRCTC can provide you duplicate train ticket if you have lost your train ticket. As you already know that you can buy your train ticket via two methods: first is online booking and second is by the PRS counter.
So, if you booked your train ticket from the IRCTC website then you can simply login to your account and get your duplicate train ticket in your booking history and print out them. But if you booked your train ticket by the PRS counter then you should immediately inform Railway Reservation Office about the loss of the ticket to prevent fraudulent refunds on your ticket.
How to get duplicate train ticket online:
If you have lost your online ticket then getting a duplicate train ticket would be quite easy for you because you will just have to login into your IRCTC account. You will have to go to the booking history and from there you can get your duplicate train ticket, you should print out them.
How to offline duplicate train tickets:
To get a duplicate ticket bought from the PRS counter, you will have to visit the nearest computerized Reservation Counter, and then you will have to inform the Chief Reservation Supervisor. Inform him that you have lost your ticket and show your ID proof that you used it while booking your ticket. Only if your ticket is confirmed or in RAC status then he will issue a duplicate ticket with the same PNR number. However, there are some terms and conditions for a duplicate train ticket.
On payment of a minimal charge, duplicate tickets are provided. Duplicate tickets are issued based on two criteria:
Before preparation of Train chart
If your journey is less than 500 kilometers, you will be charged 25% of the total fee for duplicate tickets, and if your journey is more than 500 kilometers, you will be charged just 10% of the entire fare for duplicate tickets. The charges (ten percent or twenty-five percent) will be returned to you at the destination station’s counter.
Because Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains have their own fare structure, 25% of the total fare will be deducted as charges, regardless of distance.
- If your Confirmed or RAC ticket is torn or damaged charges will be the same as for the issue of a duplicate ticket.
- If you request a duplicate ticket before the chart is prepared, the charges are the same as for the issue of a duplicate ticket.
- If a ticket is lost or misplaced, a duplicate ticket is given if the reason is valid and can be verified using the information on the ticket.
If the chart is prepared:
If your ticket is verified then you will be charged 50% of the total fee if a train chart is generated. For torn or destroyed tickets, you will be charged 25% of your train ticket fare.
Note:
- On missing RAC tickets, no duplicate tickets will be provided.
- In the event of, Waiting List ticket is lost, torn, or damaged, no duplicate tickets will be provided.
Rules to follow if you found your lost train ticket:
- In case you find your lost original train ticket then you can submit your ticket before the departure of the train and you will get your refund and the extra amount you paid for the duplicate ticket will be given back to you.
- A minimum charge of 5% (minimum 20 INR) will be charged from your payment.
- If your ticket was torn, damaged, or misplaced on the train during the journey and if you have paid extra changes then you can get a refund by submitting an application to the Railway Administration.
- After analysis of the process investigations, the Zonal Railway’s Chief Commercial Manager shall issue a refund of complete charges after deducting a 50% cancellation fee on a single journey ticket per passenger, provided that no one has previously requested a refund on the original ticket.
In which cases you won’t be eligible for a refund on your ticket:
If you have lost your train ticket and want to cancel your train ticket but you must have your PNR number for it. If you lose your ticket and try to gain a refund from the railways by using any unethical means/practices, the railways will not give you a refund.
Tips to follow when you’re on a Long Journey in Train:
If you are on a long journey make sure you have your train ticket throughout the journey. Because TTEs who check your tickets are changed frequently and they can ask for tickets again and again. In case you have lost your train ticket in the journey then make sure to get proof of loss of ticket either by filing FIR or getting a written proof from the TTE or getting a duplicate ticket.
